I've always enjoyed nature—and in 2015, when my husband, Howard, and I sold most of our possessions to buy an RV and explore the country, we quickly fell in love with national parks. Together, we toured 28 states, covering 30,000 miles and visiting: Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Arches National Park, Redwood National Park, Yosemite National Park, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Glacier National Park, Crater Lake National Park and Dry Tortugas National Park! WHERE IS HIPPIE CANDY MADE?
I hand-pour, every small-batch, of soap in the beautiful mountains of Taos, New Mexico.
IS HIPPIE CANDY, VEGAN?
Yes, always! I'm an animal lover and choose not to use any animal products in my soap, including honey or any sort of milk from animals. So no, I don't make goat or sheep milk soap.
WHAT IS THE SHELF LIFE OF A BAR OF SOAP?
Keep your boxed soap stored in a cool and dry place and it should easily last one year, unopened.
HOW LONG DOES EACH BAR OF SOAP LAST?
These are HUGE bars of soap! Many factors play into how long your soap will last: how many showers you take, how many people are using the bar of soap and how you care for your soap? Using a draining soap dish prolongs the life of a bar of soap. A bar should easily last 2 months is what happy customers are saying.
WHAT IS THE SIZE OF A BAR OF SOAP?
Since each bar is handmade and hand cut, it varies per design, roughly: 3.5" x 3.25" x 1.0625" / weight: 6-7 oz.
CAN I CUT THE BAR DOWN TO A SMALLER SIZE?
Yes! These are rather large bars, so feel free to cut them in half for easier handling, as well as, the opportunity to switch scents sooner!

Olive Oil:
Very mild and nourishing, good for for sensitive, elder and baby skin.
Coconut Oil:
High cleansing ability.
Shea Butter:
Very moisturizing.
Avocado Oil:
High in vitamin E, it adds conditioning and moisturizing properties.
Castor Oil:
Boosts lather, creating luxurious bubbles.
WHY DON'T YOU USE PALM OIL?
I choose to be an eco-conscious company, and while palm oil has good properties for soap making and is affordable, it has been and continues to be a major driver of deforestation of some of the world’s most biodiverse forests.
WHY I ONLY USE ESSENTIAL OILS AND NOT FRAGRANCE OILS?
Simply put, essential oils are derived from plants and fragrance oils are mystery concoctions of undisclosed synthetic chemicals. Essential oils are volatile plant extracts made from steam distilling or cold-pressing flowers, bark, stems, leaves, peel, roots, seeds, resins, or other parts of a plant (SO AMAZING). Synthetic fragrance is one of the top cosmetic ingredients to avoid by beauty experts. So for me and my customers, I'd rather you lather up with plants vs. undisclosed synthetic chemicals. What you put on your body is just as important as what you put in it. The more natural, the better!
WHAT IF I'M NOT A FAN OF PATCHOULI?
It is called Hippie Candy after all, but I get it, patchouli isn't for everyone. Dirty Hippie is my only soap that is very heavy on patchouli – think Woodstock. I like to use patchouli as a base because it adds a nice woodsy / earthy element. Base oils only make up 5%-20% of a blend, whereas, the middle and top notes make up the rest and will be what you smell the most. Base oils hold the entire scent together, and are good for slowing the evaporation of the other oils. Over one year later, my bars of soap still smell amazing because I choose to balance my essential oils blends with a top, middle and base note.
WHY ISN'T YOUR SOAP BRIGHT COLORS?
Again, as an eco-conscious company, I choose to color my soaps with ingredients only from nature / plants (clays, herbs, spices) vs. synthetic colorants like micas or glitters. Your skin will thank you, trust me – and so will the environment.
WHY DOES MY SOAP LOOK DIFFERENT THAN THE PHOTOS?
These are handmade items, and while I try my hardest to duplicate batches, it is not always possible, so please allow for slight variations in color and texture.
DOES BAR SOAP CLEAN AS WELL AS LIQUID SOAP?
Yes! Bar soap and liquid soap are equally effective. It's also important to remember that antibacterial soap is not necessarily more effective at killing germs than regular soap.
WHY DO YOU MAKE SOAP?
Honestly, after trying several different soap brands, none of them made me excited and I was tired of the ingredients I couldn't pronounce. So I began the quest of making the perfect bar of soap, and Hippie Candy was born! I also love to bake and soap making is a very similar process, without the calories. After making my first batch of soap, I was hooked! It makes me excited to shower and I think it will you too!
